Five levels. One question: how far did we look?
Every Veritado certificate carries a certification level from 1 to 5. Each level adds a step to the one before it, from our model’s analysis of photographs to two independent experts who must agree. Most of our certificates are level 5: Black Label.

A second expert examines the item independently. Both must reach the same conclusion.

An expert’s opinion
A trained examiner weighs the physical evidence, the model’s findings and the period exemplars, and forms the opinion.

Ultraviolet and other light sources
Inks that match in daylight but aren’t the same, alterations, erasures, and the pressure of the pen in light raking across the page.

Examination under the microscope
The item itself comes to our lab: line quality, pen strokes, ink pooling, retouching, and any sign of printing, stamping or an autopen.

Photo analysis by our machine-learning model
From photographs. The model compares the signature with genuine examples from the same years, and a person checks the result. Nothing physical.
What the record shows
Level 1 certification
Level is not confidence
Certification level, 1 to 5
How far the examination went: photographs only, or the item in hand under the microscope and other lights, then one expert, then two.
Confidence, low to very high
How strongly the evidence supports the result. It is shown on the record as a dial beside the verdict.
A record shows both. The level tells you how much was done; the confidence tells you what it found.
Black Label
Level 5 is Veritado’s highest authentication level and our recognisable mark. It is given only to an authentic result, and only when both experts agree.
